IEEE International Conference on Communications ICC2011

ICC2011 was held on 5-9 June 2011, with more than 1800 participants, from 48 counties and regions, gathered in the Kyoto International Conference Center to present and discuss the latest topics on next generation Information and Communications Technologies.

The conference was sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society, the IEICE Communications Society and the Science Council of Japan, in cooperation with Kyoto Prefecture and Kyoto City.

Dear ICC 2011 authors,

We are glad to inform you that the final preparations for a successful ICC 2011 in Kyoto are near completion and we welcome you in Kyoto.

We are also aware that the email which was sent out to all participants in ICC 2011 last week from ICC 2011 Committee may have conveyed a unintended harsh impression of our No-Show policy for ICC 2011. We apologize for this impression and the resulting confusion and would like to clarify the situation.

As you know, it has always been our policy, that for those who, for whatever reason, were unable to attend a conference in person, that they could arrange for a qualified substitute to give their paper and that such a paper, given by the substitute, could then be published in the conference proceedings and IEEE Explore. For those participants in this situation, please contact your session chairs as soon as possible, to let them know that this is the case for your paper.

In addition and in the case of ICC 2011, we would like to extend our definition of 'substitute' to include an electronic substitute. This would entail providing to the session chair and symposium chair a recorded version of your paper, perhaps Powerpoint slides plus voiceover, that the session chair could play at the appropriate point in the conference. ComSoc will also investigate making these presentations available on a "virtual conference" website for some period of time. It would be appropriate to include in your slides an email address so that session participants can direct questions about the presentation to you since the in-person questions and answers that are an important part of the conference experience would not be available. Again, if you would like to avail yourself of this alternative, please contact your session and symposium chairs as soon as possible, so that appropriate arrangements and coordination can be arranged.

For you who are coming to Kyoto, we are looking forward to seeing all of you, and to having a great ICC 2011 in Kyoto.

Best Regards,

K. B. Letaief
Vice-President for Conferences

Important Notice from ICC 2011 Organizing Committee

"INFORMATION REGARDING THE EARTHQUAKE IN JAPAN"

A massive earthquake and tsunami struck the Tohoku area (Northern part) of Japan on March 11, 2011, and Japan is experiencing hardship.
Many of the volunteers supporting ICC 2011 worry about their friends and relatives who are now living in severe circumstances. Our prayers and thoughts are with everyone who has been affected by this disaster.
While the whole of Japan is moving forward to deal with this tragedy, the overall ICC 2011 committee continues to plan for a successful ICC 2011 in Kyoto.
The western area of Japan, including Kyoto has not been affected at all. The conference center, hotels, airports and transportation are running normally. We are confident that ICC 2011 will take place as scheduled.
We all welcome our friends from all over the world, and are looking forward to seeing you in Kyoto.

Yours Sincerely

ICC 2011 Organizing Committee
